Pinterest
has recently captured my attention and the family birthday hanger was
one of the first items that I repinned. I thought it was a great idea
for Christmas gifts since our family is so large. Mom is always sending
off cards and always has to dig around in her address book for birth
dates, and this hanger would be much handier and looks great on the
wall.
The
paint color is Valspar's Tantilizing Teal from Lowe's. We recently were
shopping for paint for my bedroom and one of the sample containers was
enough to cover this wooden plaque and the wooden circles. It took about
two coats front and back for good coverage on the wooden circles as
they aren't treated and like to soak the paint up.
The
wooden circles are 1 3/4" and found at Hobby Lobby. A 3/16" bit was
used to pre-drill holes. The circles are very fragile and will split if
you are not careful. I had to throw several away.
I
mod podge decorative scrapbook paper onto the wooden plaque and cut off
the excess using an exacto knife. I stenciled on the wording and then
painted the outlines black. I pre-drilled holes for every month on the
bottom edge of the plaque and then screwed in the tiniest eye hooks I
could find from Lowes.
Using
a black paint pen I wrote each person's name and birth day on each
circle. For added highlight I came back with a silver paint pen. Then I
added eye hooks to the top and bottom and attached them in numerical
order.
The finished product looks great on our wall. This item is available for special creation at our etsy shop www.etsy.com/shop/missjem. You can order in most colors and it includes 20 names + 5 blank circles to add your own names in the future.
